It is with great pleasure that I announce the introduction of our newest model, the MX-200, now available with standard G-10. Why am I so excited about this knife? Because it is a design created by my son Lucas. Mary and I were so impressed by his modified versions of the MX-200 that we both said, “This has to go into production.” And here it is.

Lucas’s design was inspired by a “real” Kukri knife he found on one of the shelves with my souvenirs—a knife that was once personally given to me by the commander of a Gurkha regiment. Lucas’s design captured the essence of the Kukri style, and that is clearly expressed in the final design of his Kukri Flipper folding knife—the MX-200.

Kukri – a distinctive curved knife with a rich history

The Kukri is a distinctive curved knife closely associated with Nepalese Gurkha soldiers. The Kukri has a rich and compelling history stretching back centuries. The earliest known origin of the Kukri can be traced to the knife used by the indigenous Nepalese Gurung and Magar tribes. These tribes were renowned for their skill and ferocity in combat, and the khukuri (the Nepalese variant) was both an essential tool and a weapon.

When Gurkha regiments were formed in the early 19th century, the Kukri became an iconic symbol and the signature weapon of these legendary mountain warriors. The characteristic shape of the Kukri, with its curved blade and sharp tip, made it an exceptionally effective weapon for close combat. Gurkha soldiers were extensively trained in the use of the Kukri, and stories of their bravery and fighting skill with the Kukri against their enemies are legendary.

The design of the Kukri has remained largely unchanged for centuries, with origins possibly tracing back to the ancient Greek kopis blade shape, which may have been introduced to the region by the soldiers of Alexander the Great. It is said that the curved blade makes powerful chopping motions easier, which was devastating in close combat. The traditional Kukri is made of steel forged by skilled Nepalese blacksmiths using techniques passed down from generation to generation.

Beyond its martial associations, the Kukri also carries great cultural and spiritual significance in Nepal. It is regarded as a sacred tool imbued with protective powers. Kukris are often blessed by priests and carried as talismans. The Kukri is also used in various Nepalese ceremonies and rituals. This deep cultural connection has ensured the enduring legacy of the Kukri in Nepalese history and identity.

To this day, the Kukri remains an iconic symbol of the legendary Gurkha soldiers and the Nepalese nation. It continues to be an indispensable part of Gurkha equipment and is revered as a weapon of great power and significance. The Kukri’s unique design and rich history have made it one of the best-known and most respected bladed weapons in the world.
