Extrema Ratio KS Fixed Blade Knife
Detailed product description
Extrema Ratio KS Fixed Blade Knife.
There is a reason it is a classic. The “Kukri,” made famous by the Gurkha regiments serving under the British Crown, is a Nepalese utility blade descended from ancient Greek sickle-shaped swords. It is ultimately a machete with a very heavy, forward-weighted edge that allows it to function like an axe while retaining the versatility of a long blade. Extrema Ratio developed two such tools, our KS and KH models, combining old and modern design concepts. Both use combined grinds. The razor-like hollow edge closer to the handle provides a fine, sharp cutting edge without compromising the overall thickness of the blade spine, where great durability is required. The tip section of the blade is instead flat ground, with a strong curve that allows it to cut effortlessly into wood and vegetation. While similar tools are usually made from softer steel alloys for flexibility and easy honing, by using hard BÖHLER N690 steel we were able to achieve the necessary flexibility, resulting in a remarkably durable edge.
