“Arditi Distruttori della Regia Aeronautica” (literally, the brave destroyers of the Royal Air Force) was an Italian battalion serving in the North African theatre during the Second World War and was awarded two silver medals of honour. Their task was to carry out complex sabotage operations against enemy airfields, which they accomplished using unprecedented guerrilla tactics. Today, the 17° Stormo Incursori (17th Raider Wing) of the Italian Air Force continues their glorious legacy as a special forces unit. As a tangible sign of continuity, members of the 17th unit lined up and displayed combat daggers on their belts, just as the Arditi wore them. This ADRA dagger, with its classic European shape, was designed for and with strong input from the commanders and operatives of the 17th Wing. Thus begins its journey of honour and duty.
