This milestone among multipurpose knives, used extensively in Afghanistan as standard issue for the Italian “Nibbio” mission, was created as part of an experimental project by the COMALP Alpine Troops Command to renew soldiers’ equipment. As part of mission preparation, COMALP coordinated a team of companies with the aim of creating a complete experimental set of newly designed equipment for the individual soldier. Extrema Ratio was selected by COMALP to develop a new multipurpose knife suitable for infantry use – a knife that could be used in any operation anywhere and capable of successfully completing tasks where more specialized tools fail. The project was so successful that this multipurpose knife was followed by the development of the Fulcrum bayonet, a version that can be mounted on a soldier’s standard rifle. An extremely durable and versatile knife, the Fulcrum blade withstands loads of over 150 kilograms without breaking. The tanto-shaped blade allows for extensive work and wear while still maintaining a sharp, penetrating edge at its exceptionally strong tip.
