Kershaw founder Pete Kershaw knew how important guaranteed quality was. At the end of 1974, he decided to establish his own knife company in a cement plant in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
In Japan, Kai CEO Koji Endo believed Kershaw had even greater growth potential. In 1996, Endo invested in an American manufacturing facility at Kai USA's Wilsonville headquarters. He believed this would help Kershaw reach its full potential. Soon after, Kai USA hired a new production team for the job.
