The SpydieChef is Spyderco’s latest collaboration with Polish knifemaker Marcin Slysz. Known for his elegantly simple designs and flawless craftsmanship, Slysz began making fixed-blade knives in 2006 and quickly developed the skills to transition to high-tech folding knives, which are now his specialty. His highly recognizable style—as seen in his previous collaborations, the Techno and Slysz Bowie—typically features titanium handles, Reeve Integral Lock (RIL) mechanisms, and premium stainless steel blades, but he also enjoys making layered scales, a wide range of fixed blades, and various unique tactical tools.

Although its name suggests that it is purely a kitchen tool, the SpydieChef is actually a highly evolved folding knife designed for all-purpose use. It takes the user-friendly ergonomics and agile balance of a high-end chef’s knife and translates them into an extremely versatile cutting tool that is compact and comfortable enough for everyday carry.

The most distinctive feature of the SpydieChef is its elegantly curved, full-flat-ground blade, precision machined from LC200N steel. The “other” steel (besides H-1) in Spyderco’s elite Salt knife line, LC200N is a state-of-the-art nitrogen-alloyed tool steel specifically engineered to offer outstanding corrosion resistance and extreme toughness, even at high hardness levels.

In classic Slysz style, the SpydieChef has an open-back handle built from two precisely machined solid titanium scales. The rear scale forms the foundation of a high-strength Reeve Integral Lock (RIL) mechanism that locks the blade securely open during use, yet still allows easy one-handed lock release. The refined ergonomics of the handle and the integrated lower guard ensure a secure, comfortable grip and naturally position the blade edge for maximum control in use. For added safety when working around water, the handle also features a generously sized lanyard hole that allows easy attachment of safety cords and lanyards. The ambidextrous deep-pocket wire clip provides convenient, reversible tip-up carry and ensures the knife is always ready for immediate access. Like the blade and titanium scales, the pocket clip, screws, and all other components of the SpydieChef are made from highly corrosion-resistant alloys. This ensures it is practically impervious to the elements and qualifies it as a worthy member of Spyderco’s Salt Series.
