Spyderco Marcin Slysz Techno 2 Folding Knife C158TIP2
Detailed product description
Spyderco Marcin Slysz Techno 2 Folding Knife C158TIP2
In 2012, Spyderco released its first collaboration with Polish custom knifemaker Marcin Slysz — the Techno. Its elegantly simple design and robust construction style immediately caught the attention of the Spyderco community and shone a spotlight on Slysz and his exceptionally crafted custom knives. In a short time, the Techno earned a devoted following and helped redefine the concept of a compact folding knife.
Although Slysz later collaborated with Spyderco on two other designs, the Techno continued to captivate end users around the world. As its popularity steadily grew, so did the number of requests Spyderco received for an updated, even more refined version. Slysz, who already had his own ideas for improving the design, was happy to oblige and responded with the Techno 2.
Like its predecessor, the Techno 2 packs tremendous strength and utility into an amazingly compact package. Its stonewashed blade is still made from premium CTS-XHP stainless steel, but its thickness has been reduced from 4.5 mm (0.177 inch) to a trimmer 3.5 mm (0.138 inch). Instead of a full-flat grind, it features a high saber grind that keeps the spine at full thickness for strength while ensuring excellent edge geometry for low-friction cutting performance. The blade profile was also refined into an almost sheepfoot shape instead of the previous drop-point pattern. This provides better point utility and cutting leverage compared to the original. Strategically placed jimping on the thumb ramp offers a non-slip purchase for maximum control during use, and the trademark round hole allows quick one-handed opening.
The highly refined Techno 2 is a compact, extremely practical cutting tool capable of working with authority far beyond its size. It clearly surpasses its predecessor while continuing to showcase Marcin Slysz’s distinctive approach to knife design.
Marcin Slysz
Marcin Slysz’s fascination with knives began at an early age with his very first pocket knife. As his interest grew, some of his friends, who were passionate knife collectors, began introducing him to the world of “serious” knifemaking and handmade knives. Unfortunately, Slysz found that these knives also came with “serious” prices that were well beyond his budget. Undeterred, he decided that if he couldn’t buy the knives he wanted, he would make them himself.
Slysz made his first knife in 2006 — a heavy fixed blade that he crafted using only a file and a lot of elbow grease. Although it was a slow, extremely demanding process, he thoroughly enjoyed it and became convinced that he had found his life’s calling. Soon after, he invested in a grinder and began making knives in earnest. As fixed blades led to folders and his skills and tools steadily improved, Slysz eventually decided to leave his full-time job and pursue a career in knifemaking. He never looked back.
Slysz, now regarded as one of Poland’s leading custom knifemakers, specializes in high-tech, tactically inspired folders made from state-of-the-art materials. For folder handles, he prefers the strength and light weight of titanium and Timascus, and for fixed blades, the appearance and texture of blasted canvas Micarta. For blade steels, he works mostly in RWL34, but also uses CPM-S30V, 154CM, Damasteel, and custom-forged stainless Damascus by Chad Nichols. The vast majority of his designs feature titanium handles, Reeve Integral Locks (RIL), and blades made from premium stainless steels; however, he is equally comfortable producing slipjoints, a wide range of fixed blades, and a variety of specialized tactical tools and accessories. He even does his own engraving on both knives and the occasional handmade piece of jewelry.
Slysz’s flawless craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail have made his custom knives extremely popular with both collectors and demanding end users worldwide. They also attracted the attention of Spyderco’s leadership and made him a natural choice for a Spyderco collaboration project. The release of his Techno folder in 2012 created an immediate stir and quickly earned a passionate following in the Spyderco community. It was followed by the Slysz Bowie in 2014 and the SpydieChef in 2016, both of which continued to expand Slysz’s popularity and the knife community’s appreciation of his work.
