Detailed product description

Spyderco Pacific Salt 2 Folding Knife C91FSGR2

The Pacific Salt 2 platform combines the highly refined ergonomics, grip texture, and four-position pocket clip of the iconic Endura 4 Lightweight with ultra-corrosion-resistant materials. This brand-new version of the Pacific Salt 2 further enhances the design with a full-flat-ground LC200N blade, a bright green FRN handle, and a black-coated blade and clip. This fully ambidextrous design, available with either a PlainEdge or a fully serrated blade, delivers unmatched cutting performance in and around the water.

LC200N LIGHTWEIGHT

When Spyderco introduced the first knives in its award-winning Salt Series in 2004, the most logical “platform” for them was its well-established family of lightweight models—namely the third-generation Endura and Delica. These knives featured a one-piece handle injection molded from tough fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN), which meant they had very few internal parts or cavities that could make them vulnerable to corrosion. Rendering these proven designs with H-1 steel blades and other specialized materials transformed them into ultra-corrosion-resistant cutting tools that were ideal for use in and around water.

Over time, other models joined the original Endura and Delica—which became the Pacific Salt and Salt 1, respectively—including the Atlantic Salt, Tasman Salt, and others. Together, the Salt Series quickly earned an enviable reputation among sailors, fishermen, divers, and others who rely on their knives in wet or humid environments where corrosion is a serious concern.

Because the original members of the Salt Series were based on third-generation lightweight models, they did not include the design improvements that defined the Endura 4, Delica 4, and other current lightweight models. These included enhanced ergonomics, the improved grip texture of Bi-Directional Texturing, and a four-position clip that supports tip-down and tip-up carry on both sides of the body. To incorporate these features into the Salt Series while also eliminating the potential corrosion vulnerability of internal liners, Spyderco created the second generation of Salt lightweight models. Externally, their handles are identical or nearly identical to the Endura 4 and Delica 4; however, they are made entirely from injection-molded FRN. Instead of stainless steel liners, they feature a molded "webbed" pattern on the inside of the scales for additional structural strength and are equipped with four sets of threaded inserts to anchor the four-position pocket clip.

The enhanced features of the Salt 2 and Pacific Salt 2 immediately found favor with Spyderco fans, many of whom were also intrigued by the performance potential of another of Spyderco’s ultra-corrosion-resistant blade steels—LC200N. Spyderco took this evolutionary process one step further and decided to invest in supplying LC200N steel to Japan so it could be incorporated into the latest versions of the lightweight Salt models made there. The result is a line of Salt folding knives boasting LC200N steel blades and bright, high-visibility green handles. Taking full advantage of the unique properties of this martensitic steel, the blades of these knives feature full-flat grinds for exceptional edge geometry and low-friction cutting performance. Compared to Salt knives with H-1 blades, the PlainEdge versions offer improved edge retention, and all models are also available in the SpyderEdge format.

For more than 15 years, Spyderco’s Salt Series has set the standard in ultra-corrosion-resistant cutting tools. Its latest additions to this extraordinary product family raise the bar even higher and will surely inspire even more models and variations in the future.
