Detailed product description

Spyderco Stretch 2 XL Lightweight C258PBK – Big performance in an ultralight design

The Spyderco Stretch 2 XL Lightweight (C258PBK) represents the top tier of large yet compact EDC knives. Thanks to the elimination of steel liners and the use of highly durable FRN (fiberglass-reinforced nylon), this model is 29% lighter than the classic Stretch 2, while still offering an extra-large 100 mm blade—ideal for precise cutting and everyday tasks.

The blade, made from Japanese VG-10 steel with a satin finish and full-flat grind, offers excellent cutting performance and easy sharpening. The Back-Lock with Boye Dent ensures safety, while the SpyderHole allows convenient one-handed opening, even while wearing gloves.

The FRN handle with bi-directional texturing guarantees a secure grip and weighs only 77 g (2.7 oz)—the combination of size and lightness is truly exceptional. The four-position clip allows comfortable tip-up/tip-down carry on both the right and left side.

Key benefits

  • Robust cutting blade: VG-10 satin blade with a full-flat grind for excellent sharpness and lasting performance
  • Light but sturdy handle: FRN without steel liners offers sufficient rigidity and ergonomics
  • Ambidextrous carry: Versatile clip and multiple carry options for different situations
  • Reliable locking mechanism: Back-Lock secures the blade firmly during work
  • 🔴 Drawbacks
  • “Lightweight” body feel: For some users, the linerless design may feel less premium
  • Less aggressive texturing: FRN is not as rough as G-10, though the grip remains reliable
  • Limits under hard use: Better suited to cutting and EDC than heavy prying

Maintenance and care

  • Clean the pivot and lock with a soft brush, and wipe away shavings and dust
  • Lubricating with a drop of gun oil on the pivot and lock will keep the action smooth
  • Sharpen using a standard ceramic or water stone; VG-10 sharpens well
  • 💬 Community feedback

“Superlight for what you get, great ergos, lotsa blade… the most knife per gram of anything I’m aware of by a long shot.”

“It weighs hardly anything and you get a lot of blade length… if you remember it’s a folder designed for slicing then you won’t do stupid shit with it that could break it.”
